Eight U.S. Synagogues Selected for JASA Cohort 2

Mazel tov, JASA Cohort 2!

Eight more synagogues will open Jewish after-school programs as part of the Jewish After School Accelerator's second cohort:

  • Congregation Anshai Torah in Plano, TX

  • Hamakom in Woodland Hills, CA

  • Temple Beth Sholom in San Leandro, CA

  • Temple Judea in Coral Gables, FL

  • Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El in Plantation, FL

  • Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline, MA

  • Temple Shalom in Naples, FL

  • Temple Sinai in Oakland, CA

Beginning in January 2024, each of these organizations will receive expert guidance and collaborate with one another to recruit, train, and retain staff; structure transportation plans; customize the Jewish and Hebrew curriculum; and market their after-school program to families. They will receive matching grants of up to $100,000 over three years to offset start-up costs. Cohort two after-school programs will open in the fall of 2024.

The selected organizations competed with dozens of synagogues, community centers, day schools, and federations for the coveted spots. A group of finalists convened in Atlanta in October and departed the informative gathering with five important tasks to complete to demonstrate Jewish after-school viability in their community. Organizations that confirmed board approval and illustrated local interest, among other tasks, were selected to participate in cohort two.

JASA’s first participants, Temple Sinai of North Dade in Miami, FL; Isaac M. Wise Temple in Cincinnati, OH; Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston, NJ; and Temple Beth Tikvah in Roswell, GA, opened their Jewish weekday afternoon programs this past fall.
